Project Description

The AIM project addresses the challenge of newsroom readiness for AI integration and journalists’ safety. It aims to enhance knowledge, establish safety-focused policies, and promote responsible AI use. Key outputs include training sessions, policy frameworks, and awareness campaigns, achieved through capacity-building workshops, policy development, and stakeholder engagement.

Specific Objectives
- Build newsroom capacity for understanding and responsibly integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) while fostering a safer environment for journalists.

- Enhance the technical and ethical knowledge of journalists and media professionals through targeted training programs.

- Develop and promote implementation of newsroom policies that guide AI adoption and promote journalist safety.

Theory of Change - Long-Term Goal: Newsrooms in Nigeria adopt AI technologies responsibly while prioritizing journalist safety, fostering an inclusive and ethical media environment.

Intermediate Outcomes:
- Journalists and media professionals gain advanced skills in AI integration and adopt safety-focused policies.

- Media organisations implement inclusive practices and develop policies addressing gender-specific risks and ethical challenges.

The AIM Project is supported by UNESCO/IPDC.​ The International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) is a UNESCO program that strengthens independent media in developing countries. It acts as the UN's only multilateral forum for media development, providing funding, setting standards, and promoting freedom of expression, journalist safety, and access to information.
